ROLE graphic design, typography, illustration

CLIENT Personal Project

I originally created this movie poster concept as part of one of my university typography classes. Several renditions later, it’s still a part of my portfolio because I love the way it showcases the whimsical, colorful side of my design work.

Oz the Great and Powerful, like a lot of the movies and series based off of The Wizard of Oz, completely captured my imagination with its bold colors and magical world building, and I wanted this poster to embody that same eccentric, fantastical energy.

The background is black and white with a grainy paper texture, which is a nod to the original movie that was created in 1939, and also provides a neutral space for the balloon to become a focal point. I painted the hot air balloon with acrylic paints and scanned it into Photoshop, imposed paper texture with Photoshop, shaped movie quotes to the balloon shape in Illustrator, and created the background landscape in Illustrator.
